Bossier Parish Community College basketball coach Jeff Moore has faith in his 12 freshmen even as they absorb some tough lessons in Region XIV play.

Wednesday night at the Billy Montgomery Gym, the Cavaliers built an 11-point first-half lead but faltered late. Kilgore CC broke away from a tie down the stretch, outscoring BPCC 17-7 to claim a 72-62 road win.

“We started the game strong with energy and moved the ball really well, leading to us getting an 11-point lead early and going into the half up five,” said Moore. “In the second half Kilgore turned up their defense which led to turnovers and they dominated the offensive glass.”

Mazin Lumori scored 20. The sophomore from the Sudan, a 6-4 guard, sank 6 of 10 on 3-pointers. Freshman Zaquan Lewis added 19 points for the Cavaliers (8-9, 2-7) who dropped their seventh straight.

“We are close to getting over the hump. Our players play extremely hard and I love coaching them,” said Moore. “In this league it is on to the next one with the right mindset. There are no nights off in Region XIV.”

Actually, BPCC had one last Saturday. Their scheduled visit to Blinn CC was postponed after one of the Blinn rims was broken by a dunk in a Friday practice by the home team. That game will get played later.

The Cavs will likely avoid the incoming weather for their Saturday game, which is at Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas, just north of Corpus Christi.

BPCC is home again next Wednesday against Tyler JC.
