Agnes Meyer Birdsong entered eternal rest on January 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 4, 1940, in New Roads, Louisiana, to the late John N. Meyer and Odelia Gaines Meyer.
Following the untimely passing of her mother, Agnes was lovingly nurtured and guided in her early years by her maternal grandparents, Alexander Gaines and Rosalie Jones Gaines. She was later raised by her father and stepmother, Virginia Solomon Meyer. Agnes received her early education at St. Augustine Catholic Elementary School and graduated from New Roads High School in 1961.
She later attended Southern University, where she met her future husband, Solomon Birdsong of Shreveport, Louisiana. While at Southern University, Agnes was actively involved as a volunteer and civil rights activist. After marriage, she relocated to Shreveport, where she resided for more than sixty years. There, she raised her family and welcomed two sons, Solomon Birdsong Jr. and Philander Birdsong (Nanette).
Agnes enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Lucent Technologies, where she served as an employee and supervisor before retiring. She was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years, later becoming a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church under Father Duane Trombetta in Shreveport.
