In a district with two of the state’s most productive quarterbacks, it figures that a defensive back would be tapped as the most valuable defensive player.
Northwood’s Justin Thomas was somebody to be avoided by Falcons’ foes this fall. His stats — 61 tackles, three interceptions in the regular season – indicate the respect opponents had for him, as they went other directions. Thomas was chosen the District 1-4A Defensive MVP by the district coaches on the All-1-4A team released once North DeSoto ended its state playoff run in the state finals.
North DeSoto senior quarterback Luke Delafield was named the Offensive MVP. He capped his career fifth all-time on the state’s career pass yardage list with 10,851 yards and helped the Griffins to 46 wins and two state championship game appearances, along with three straight 1-4A titles.
North DeSoto’s Dennis Dunn was chosen as the Coach of the Year after guiding the Griffins to another unbeaten district season and a perfect regular season, including a 39-28 win at Class 5A power West Monroe.
After a breakout junior season in which he threw for 3,406 yards and 48 touchdowns, Loyola’s Bryce Restovich shared first-team all-district quarterback honors with Delafield.
The Flyers had six first-team selections and six more on the second team. Northwood had seven on the first team and seven more on the second team.
Booker T. Washington and Bossier put six players each on the first and second teams. Woodlawn had five and Southwood two.
