LSUS teams pull off RRAC road sweep at LSUA

ALEXANDRIA — LSU Shreveport swept a Red River Athletic Conference basketball doubleheader Thursday night at LSUA after the men’s team overcame a five-point halftime deficit and pushed away down the stretch for a 98-90 victory Thursday night at The Fort.

The LSUS teams visit Louisiana Christian in Pineville for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.

The Pilots improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play, while LSU Alexandria dropped to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

LSU Shreveport trailed 51-46 at halftime but rode sophomore Khi Wallace’s 28 points and 16 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the season. Hayden Brittingham added 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Emareyon McDonald provided the dagger shot with 1:22 remaining, drilling a three-pointer that gave LSUS the lead for good at 86-85. The junior guard finished with 22 points.

LSUA’s Norman Beckford had 21 points and seven rebounds, while EJ McQuillan also finished with 21 points.

LSUS WOMEN 76, LSUA 60: The Pilots turned defensive pressure into easy offense, forcing 29 turnovers and converting them into 27 points to improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The Generals committed more turnovers (29) than they made field goals (21), and fell to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

Paula Gonzalez Herrero led the Pilots with 19 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field.  Selma Markisic contributed 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
