The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recent phone scam targeting local families. Investigators report that scammers are impersonating businesses that provide ankle-monitoring systems for the Caddo Correctional Center.
The scammers are contacting family members of inmates, falsely claiming that if they pay a fee to place an ankle monitoring bracelet on their incarcerated loved one, the inmate will be released from jail.
Authorities emphasize that no payment is required until an ankle monitoring system is officially placed on an individual. Payment arrangements are typically handled between the inmate’s attorney and the judicial system, not through unsolicited phone calls.
Several individuals have already been targeted. Residents who receive such calls are urged to hang up immediately and not provide any personal information, make payments, or share details about gift cards or money cards.
Community members are encouraged to stay alert and protect themselves from these fraudulent schemes. Anyone who suspects they are being targeted should contact the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 318-675-2170.
