The high school football regular season ends this weekend with District 1-5A unbeatens Evangel and Parkway colliding for the league crown.
The teams are 7-0 in district. Parkway brings a spotless 9-0 mark to Rodney Duron Stadium while Evangel is 7-2, with two non-league losses by a total of three points to state powers Neville and Lafayette Christian.
The other Week 10 headliner is Northwood at Loyola in a contest that will determine the runner-up spot in the District 1-4A race. Both teams are 8-1 overall, 5-1 in district, with their only smudges being competitive losses to unbeaten North DeSoto.
The Byrd at Captain Shreve rivalry game will showcase the two most explosive running backs in Shreveport, Jamarcea Plater (Shreve) and Christian Maxie (Byrd). The city regular-season rushing title is at stake with Plater holding an 11-yard edge (1,457 yards, 18 TDs) over Maxie (1,446 yards, 19 TDs). Since Byrd won’t reach the playoffs, it will be the final game for record-shattering Yellow Jackets kicker Asher Murray.
Several other contests will impact power rankings to determine the playoff fates of teams, or if they get to open postseason at home next weekend.
