There are some interesting matchups on the local Week 8 schedule for high school football, headlined by unbeaten Parkway hosting explosive Captain Shreve on Friday.

The Panthers are atop District 1-5A and the Gators are one game back, despite getting blitzed in the past two weeks by the other 1-5A unbeaten, Evangel (71-25) and Class 5A No. 10 Destrehan (68-28).

Another appealing Friday game is a non-district meeting between Class 2A power Calvary and 1-5A’s Huntington, whose coach, John Simon, was involved with the Cavaliers program as his sons starred for Calvary in the past three seasons.

Two 1-5A matchups won’t impact the district lead but should be very competitive – Thursday’s visit to Natchitoches Central by Airline, and Friday’s battle between Benton and Byrd.

In 1-4A, a much-improved Bossier team visits Minden in that loop’s best showdown of Week 8.

The 1-2A contest between locals Green Oaks and North Caddo appears to be the top matchup in that district this week.
