Tough to separate challengers in SBJ poll at midseason

JOURNAL SPORTS

The voters in the Shreveport-Bossier Journal Top 10 poll rank Parkway (5-0) and Evangel (4-1) as the clear-cut top teams in local high school football halfway through the regular season.

Who is next in the pecking order? That’s a close call.

Five teams are separated by eight voting points in the Week 6 rankings with unbeaten Loyola (5-0) and explosive Captain Shreve (4-1, 4-0 in District 1-5A) tied for the third spot. Calvary and Northwood, both 4-1, are one point apart, with the former No. 1 Airline Vikings (3-2) close behind after back-to-back late 1-5A losses to Evangel and Shreve.

Booker T. Washington (4-1 after receiving a Soul Bowl forfeit win, but also just having played North DeSoto competitively again) heads the other ranked teams, with Bossier (3-2) and Huntington (2-3) getting the final two spots.
