September is Preparedness Month, and the Bossier Parish Police Jury encourages the public to be prepared by developing an emergency plan.
When developing an emergency plan, consider daily routines, responsibilities, and any specific needs. Tailor supplies and strategies to fit the household’s unique circumstances.
Discuss with family members, neighbors, and caregivers how everyone can support one another during emergencies. Consider communication strategies, childcare, pet care, business continuity, and medical needs.
Build a support network of trusted individuals who can assist with specific tasks, such as transportation, operating medical equipment, or checking in during an emergency.
Consider the following when creating a plan:
• Age Range: Infants, seniors, and others may have different needs.
• Care Responsibilities: Who depends on who—and who can help?
• Frequent Locations: Workplaces, schools, or other places where one spends time.
• Dietary Needs: Allergies, restrictions, or special diets.
• Medical Requirements: Prescriptions, equipment, and regular treatments.
• Disabilities & Accessibility: Mobility aids, communication devices, etc.
• Languages Spoken: Ensure information is accessible to all household members.
• Cultural & Religious Needs: Practices that may affect sheltering or food.
• Pets & Service Animals: Include food, care, and shelter plans.
• School-Aged Children: Coordinate with schools and plan for reunification.
