Four out front, logjam for final spots in SBJ Top 10

JOURNAL SPORTS

It’s apparent which four Shreveport-Bossier teams have been most impressive through the first three weeks of the high school football season, but it’s tough to separate the middle of the pack.

Among the 19 local squads, 12 got voting support this weekend from the Shreveport-Bossier Journal Top 10 panelists.

Unbeatens Airline and Parkway were overwhelming picks for the top two slots. Northwood, which has dominated its first three foes like Parkway has, and Evangel are the other two upper-echelon picks in the SBJ poll.

Close behind are unbeaten Loyola, which has clubbed three Class A foes, and Calvary, whipped in Week 2 at Neville but coming off an impressive upset of Class 4A state title contender Franklin Parish.

Captain Shreve is in the neighborhood of a top five ranking thanks to an offense that has come to life in the last two weeks.

After that, the other five teams getting votes in this week’s poll are closely packed.

Week 4 games should provide some separation. For the moment, speculation is plenty of fun.
