SHELBY, N.C. – All eight teams were unbeaten Thursday at the 98th American Legion Baseball World Series.

Nobody played, due to more than a week of substantial rain that left Veterans Field too soggy for baseball. The opening day schedule was pushed back to today, with four games, the last pitting the Bossier Phillies against nearby Asheville (N.C.) with start time slated for 7 o’clock EDT.

The delay came on a day with only a trace of rain. The forecast is good for the next five days, with low percentage chances for more wet weather.

The teams did not have to disrupt pitching plans thanks to the complete washout Thursday.

The Louisiana and Mid-South Region champion Phillies (24-3) will have a quick turnaround, getting back into action Saturday morning at 10 against Greece, N.Y., to begin the second day of pool play. That wraps up Sunday when the Phillies also get the action underway, meeting Chesapeake (Va.) at 10.

The top two teams in each four-team pool move on to Monday semifinals hoping to reach the Tuesday championship game.

The first three days of play will be streamed on ESPN+. The semifinals and final will air on ESPNU.

This is the second straight World Series appearance for Bossier.
