Fatal multi-vehicle crash under investigation on I-220

Officers with the Shreveport Police Department responded to a major traffic collision involving multiple vehicles near the intersection of I-220 and I-49, just before the I-49 westbound underpass on Wednesday, July 3, at approximately 5:26pm.

Upon arrival, officers determined that two vehicles were directly involved in the collision, and a third vehicle was struck by debris resulting from the crash. Due to the severity of the incident, the department’s Crash Investigation Unit was called to the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate that a blue Dodge Ram traveling westbound on I-220 during rainy weather
conditions hydroplaned, crossed the median, and struck a guardrail. The vehicle then entered the eastbound lanes of I-220, where it collided with an oncoming vehicle. Following the impact, the second vehicle continued traveling across the median, passed through westbound lanes, and ultimately struck a concrete barrier. The Dodge Ram came to a final rest overturned on the eastbound shoulder of I-220.

Tragically, the driver of the second vehicle had to be extricated by the Shreveport Fire Department and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office responded and took custody of the deceased. An autopsy has been scheduled, and next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was transported by the DWI Unit to a local hospital, where a voluntary blood sample was obtained for analysis. The crash scene was documented and processed by investigators.

This incident remains under active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes
available.
