The Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s Caddo Commons was taken back a few centuries in time as the Shire of Ardanroe, the name for the Shreveport/Bossier area of the Society for Creative Anachronism, hosted a demonstration Saturday, May 31. Knights and Samurai dueled before a delighted crowd. Calligraphers and costume designers displayed their artistic wares and answered questions about their craft. Children tried their hand at heraldry, making their own designs and coloring them while a leatherworker made custom keychains. The fun event was part of a series of family friendly events ranging from concerts to art exhibits that give area families a fun way to stretch their horizons.
The Society for Creative Anachronism is a group of history lovers who come together to recreate the era before the 17th century. SCA Members bring back to life medieval crafts such as calligraphy, leatherwork, blacksmithing and cooking dishes of the period. Of course, one of the most popular SCA events is dueling between armored knights. Saturday was no exception as knights and a visiting Samurai battled in full armor before a cheering crowd.
