Shreveport Police arrest two following armed assault at Walmart

Amarion Turner and Jeffrey McDay

Shreveport Police officers responded to the Walmart located at 1125 Shreveport Barksdale Highway in reference to a reported assault and battery on May 11 just after 6:30pm.

Upon arrival, officers learned that two armed individuals had entered the store, and one of them had
assaulted a Walmart employee with a firearm. Officers quickly located and detained the suspects, later
identified as Amarion Turner and Jeffrey McDay.

Turner was found to have an unsecured handgun tucked into his waistband. McDay was taken into custody without incident. After reviewing store surveillance footage, officers observed McDay pull out a black pistol and strike a Walmart employee in the face with it. During the assault, the firearm fell from McDay’s hand to the ground, allowing the victim to grab the weapon and flee from the store.

Both firearms—the one dropped during the incident and the one in Turner’s possession—were recovered by officers. Turner was arrested and charged with Illegal Carrying of a Firearm, while McDay was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

This swift and effective response by Shreveport Police Patrol officers prevented what could have become a much more violent encounter. Their professionalism and quick action exemplify the department’s commitment to protecting our community.
