Suspect identified in cell phone theft and fraud case

Joseph Crooks

A female contacted the Shreveport Police Department to report that she had inadvertently left her cell phone at Walk-On’s, located at 7031 Youree Drive, on May 1, just before 12pm. Shortly after realizing her phone was missing, the victim discovered that her Apple Pay account and multiple bank accounts had been accessed without her authorization.

Detectives with the Shreveport Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit responded and launched an
immediate investigation. Surveillance footage from the restaurant helped identify the suspect who took the phone. Through further investigation, detectives determined that the individual, identified as Joseph Crooks, had used his own personal device to reset the victim’s banking information and fraudulently access her funds.

As a result of the investigation, on May 8, a warrant was issued for Joseph Crooks’ arrest for one count of felony theft.

Anyone with information on Crooks’ whereabouts is urged to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300 or submit a tip anonymously through Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
