Traffic stop leads to arrest of three individuals, multiple firearms seized

Shreveport Police officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Jewell Avenue for observed traffic violations on the evening of May 3 just after 7:30pm.

As officers approached the vehicle, they observed the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Trimaine Kelly,
reaching toward the floorboard near his feet. Officers immediately made contact with Kelly and instructed him to exit the vehicle for safety precautions.

Upon further inspection, officers discovered two additional occupants inside the vehicle: 17-year-old Peyton Calvin and 17-year-old Benny Richmond. Officers soon noticed a rifle on the back floorboard and instructed all individuals to exit the car.

At that time, Benny Richmond fled on foot but was quickly apprehended after being tased by officers. A
subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two handguns and an assault rifle.

All three individuals were taken into custody without further incident.

Peyton Calvin and Benny Richmond were both charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile. Benny Richmond also faces charges of Resisting an Officer, Possession of Marijuana, and Obstruction
of Justice. Tremaine Kelly, the driver, was arrested for Two Counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minorand Traffic Violations, including Failure to Register a Vehicle.

Thanks to the swift and professional actions of Shreveport Police officers, three more illegal firearms have
been removed from the streets—firearms that will no longer pose a threat to the community.
