Loyola opens a best-of-three LHSAA baseball playoff series against Archbishop Hannan (Covington) tonight at 6 p.m. at Cicero Field as the Flyers seek their first semifinal berth since 1999.
Seeded No, 3 in the Select Division II playoffs, Loyola is 24-10 overall after it defeated Haynes Academy in the second round last weekend. Hannan, the sixth seed, comes in with a 21-14 overall record and features right-hander Owen Stempel, who has signed to pitch at Southeastern Louisiana.
The Flyers have three pitchers — Gavin Brint, Hudson Moore and Hayden Horton — who are a combined 20-4 overall. Brint (8-1) and Cole Pryor (2-0) were the starters in the Haynes series.
Freshman Kingston Adams leads the Loyola offense with a .383 average and is one of eight starters for the Flyers who are batting over .300. Senior John Luke Lauve and junior Will Pickett each have 29 RBI.
Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. and the third game (if necessary) is set for Saturday at noon.
