Benton, Calvary home Friday in softball quarterfinals; Shreve eliminated

Calvary Baptist and Benton are the two Caddo-Bossier teams still standing in the LHSAA softball postseason, and both play quarterfinal contests at home Friday.

Calvary (34-1), a three-time defending state champion and the top seed in Select Division III, hosts No. 9 Bunkie (18-11) in a 5 p.m. contest.

Benton (27-5), the No. 2 seed in Non-Select Division I, is home Friday at 5 as well when seventh-seeded Walker (21-8) visits.

Both teams received byes in the opening round and scored homefield wins in the regional round Tuesday. Calvary blew out Fisher 16-1 in three innings while Benton rallied past Destrehan 4-2.

In a Select Division I contest Wednesday, the last regional round game involving a local team, No. 11 Captain Shreve (19-15) was eliminated by sixth-seeded Mt. Carmel 14-3 in six innings. The home team scored 10 times in its last three at-bats to break open a 1-run game.
