Calvary Baptist’s softball team started its journey toward a fourth straight state title Tuesday in predictable fashion, blowing out 16th seeded Fisher in a regional round Select Division III contest for the Lady Cavaliers’ 34th win in 35 tries tis spring.

Benton, seeded second in Non-Select Division I, fought off an upset bid by No. 15 Destrehan and prevailed to move into the state quarterfinals.

Airline, the sixth seed, was not as fortunate as the Lady Vikings lost at home to lower-seeded West Ouachita. Plain Dealing bowed out at the hands of No. 1-ranked LaSalle in the regional round in Non-Select Division IV.

Captain Shreve wraps up the local action in the regional round today at Mt. Carmel.

Baseball action gets underway later in the week in best-of-three series.
