AUGUSTA, Ga. – Rough finishes kept Sam Burns from a better finish at The Masters.

Burns posted double bogies on the final two holes Sunday, after back-to-back bogies in the closing stretch Friday and Saturday, and carded a closing 75 and a 72-hole total of 5-over 293 (73-70-75-75). That left him tied for 46th Sunday among the 52 players making the cut and playing the weekend. He won $59,535.

It was the second made cut in four trips to Augusta National for Burns, who now lives in Choudrant and plays out of Squire Creek Country Club. It snapped a skid of three straight missed cuts on the PGA Tour this spring.

The Shreveport native and Calvary Baptist product was 8-over par on the final five holes in Rounds 2-4. That torpedoed his solid play elsewhere. Burns was 4-under on Friday’s round until the closing bogies dropped him out of the top 20 and he never regained traction.

His best Masters finish was a tie for 29th two years ago.

Rory McIlroy won the tournament in a playoff with Justin Rose.
