Shreveport Police Department patrol officers located a stolen 2006 silver Dodge Ram 3500 parked and occupied at 5704 Youree Drive on April 2. Officers confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Caddo Parish. The driver, identified as Taylor Rust, was immediately taken into custody and charged with Illegal Possession of Stolen Things (IPST) and multiple drug-related offenses.
During the arrest, officers observed numerous items inside the vehicle that appeared to be stolen. SPD
Property Crimes detectives were contacted for further investigation.
Shortly after, detectives were contacted by the Haughton Police Department regarding an active burglary
case in their jurisdiction in which Rust was identified as the primary suspect. According to Haughton PD, Rust had used the stolen Dodge Ram to transport a large quantity of stolen property, including lawn equipment, hardware tools and containers, and a stolen firearm accompanied by approximately 600 rounds of ammunition.
On April 4, 2025, most of the stolen items were recovered from the truck, including the firearm and
ammunition. Because the property was in Rust’s possession within Shreveport city limits at the time of his
arrest, he now faces two additional counts of IPST and one count of Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
The stolen firearm has since been removed from the NCIC system.
Haughton PD has advised that Rust faces additional charges in their jurisdiction and have applied for an
arrest warrant.
This case highlights the strong cooperation between local law enforcement agencies in the effort to recover stolen property and hold offenders accountable.
