The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson has appointed Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington to serve on the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. This is an independent organization within the executive branch of the Federal Government focused on better serving at-risk children and youth.
Speaker Johnson issued a statement announcing his appointment: “I am honored to appoint my good friend, Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington, to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. For the last 14 years Sheriff Whittington has done exceptional work to make Bossier Parish a safe and thriving community for families. His leadership in law enforcement has earned him national recognition, and I have no doubt he will bring invaluable expertise to the Council. I am confident Sheriff Whittington will represent Bossier Parish and the State of Louisiana with distinction.”
The Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention was established by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) of 1974. It is an independent organization of the Executive Branch to assist with cross-agency coordination of juvenile delinquency programs across the federal, state, and local levels. The Agency is comprised of twenty-three total members, thirteen of those members represent federal agencies. The Attorney General of the United States serves as the Chair of the Council. Ten juvenile justice practitioners throughout the nation are appointed, with only three by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Sheriff Whittington began his career as a patrol deputy in 1988 and was elected Sheriff of Bossier Parish in 2011. Among his many distinguished achievements, he notably graduated from the FBI National Academy, served as Chairman of the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Advisory Board and President of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association, and has received national recognition for his commitment to safeguarding the community.
This prestigious appointment recognizes Sheriff Whittington’s dedication to protecting the communities and working toward meaningful juvenile justice reform. His experience in law enforcement and passion for supporting at-risk youth will be invaluable in shaping the policies that create positive change.
