Former Evangel Christian Academy bookkeeper arrested

Angela Nichole Stevens

A former bookkeeper for Evangel Christian Academy has been arrested following an investigation into financial discrepancies spanning more than a year.

On Feb. 14, a detective with the Shreveport Police Department’s White Collar Crimes Unit was contacted by the Director of Development for Evangel Christian Academy regarding suspicious bookkeeping activity. An internal review revealed discrepancies in financial records dating from April 2023 to June 2024.

Angela Nichole Stevens, who served as the academy’s bookkeeper from April 12, 2023, to June 13, 2024, was solely responsible for handling and depositing cash payments collected from various departments within the school. Detectives determined that large sums of cash intended for deposit were missing and later traced to Stevens’ personal bank account.

Evangel Christian Academy suffered a total financial loss of $85,700.25 due to the misappropriation of funds.

On March 10, Shreveport Police Patrol officers took Stevens into custody. She has been charged with one count of felony theft.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300 or Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
