Emergency crews were dispatched to a reported grass fire under a bridge in the 100 block of N. Market St. on Wednesday, March 5, at around 12:07am. Initially, the fire was thought to be a minor grass fire; however, upon arrival, fire units discovered that the situation was more serious and involved a fire from an active gas line leak underneath the bridge.

Upon reaching the scene, fire crews noticed not only the fire but also a downed power line. The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) and Swepco were already on-site, securing the area for safety. As fire crews began their investigation, t hey determined that the fire was being fueled by a gas line leak underneath the bridge.

Immediately, CenterPoint Energy was contacted, and their teams arrived quickly to assess the situation. They quickly identified the source of the leak and began emergency procedures to miti gate the risks and secure the area.

Fire crews remained on-site for approximately three hours, monitoring the situation and ensuring no further risks to public safety. In addition to SPD and Swepco, multiple agencies were involved in the response efforts, including the State Police, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), and the local Water & Sewer Department. These agenci es worked collaboratively to maintain public safety and ensure the situation was swiftly brought under control.

There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the gas line leak is currently under investigation. DOTD will issue an update when the bridge has been reopened.
