Welfare concern leads to arrest for cruelty to infirm, animals

Miranda McGee

Investigators with the Shreveport Police Department’s Youth Services Bureau were notified of a welfare concern involving an elderly female residing at 706 Len Court on Feb. 3. Upon responding to the residence, the investigating officer observed multiple hazards indicating potential neglect. The officer’s report detailed the presence of animal feces, termite infestations, and other conditions posing serious health risks.

Following an in-depth investigation, on Feb. 7, at approximately 2:03pm, officers and detectives executed a coordinated operation at the residence. During the operation, Miranda McGee was swiftly apprehended without incident. While securing the premises, officers discovered three dogs in distress, which were subsequently taken to the Caddo Animal Control Shelter. Tragically, a fourth dog was found deceased in a foul-smelling, feces-ridden back room.

McGee has been charged with Cruelty to the Infirm and Cruelty to Animals. This case underscores the SPD’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring the welfare of all members of the community, including animals.
