Sheriff Whittington announces decline in crime across Bossier Parish

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office announces a significant decrease in criminal activity across the parish. Recently released crime statistics for 2024 show a notable 2% decrease in violent crime, and a remarkable 23% reduction in property crime. Sheriff Whittington, who has long been committed to making Bossier Parish one of the safest communities in Louisiana, expressed pride in the results. He credits the continued success to a combination of proactive policing, active patrolling, and the effective use of specialized law enforcement units.

A Safe Place to Live and Raise a Family

Sheriff Whittington has consistently emphasized the importance of public safety in creating an environment where families can thrive. The latest crime statistics reinforce the idea that Bossier Parish is indeed a safe and welcoming community.

The Sheriff stated, “Our community’s safety is our top priority, and the results we see today are a direct reflection of the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the men and women of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office.” He continued by saying, “I’m proud to say that Bossier Parish is a safe place to live and raise a family, and we intend to keep it that way.”

Proactive Policing: A Key Strategy

The Sheriff credits much of this success to the proactive approach of law enforcement. With targeted patrols, neighborhood watch programs, and close collaboration with the community, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office has been able to deter potential criminals and quickly respond to emerging threats.
Sheriff Whittington explained, “Our officers are not just reactive; they are out in the community every day, building relationships with residents. This proactive approach is one of the key reasons why crime rates have decreased.”

He added, “We encourage residents to get involved, report any suspicious activity, and stay engaged with our efforts to keep Bossier Parish safe. Safety is a shared responsibility. Our deputies and our community members are partners in this effort.”

Specialized Units for Added Protection

In addition to routine patrols, Bossier Parish law enforcement benefits from specialized units designed to tackle specific challenges. The sheriff’s office employs dedicated units, including a domestic violence team, an undercover narcotics unit, motorcycle traffic enforcement, marine patrol, K-9 teams, drone teams, Special Weapons and Tactics teams, and others. These specialized teams work in tandem to focus their efforts on particular threats, further enhancing the ability to deter crime before it can take root in the community.

Essential Role of School Resource Officers

School Resource Officers also play a crucial role in both law enforcement and student development. Every school in Bossier Parish is supported by at least one SRO. Beyond ensuring the safety of the school environment, SROs actively engage with students. These officers serve as mentors and role models to students by fostering a positive relationship between law enforcement and young people in the community.

A Bright Future Ahead

In light of the positive crime statistics for 2024, Sheriff Whittington is optimistic about the future of Bossier Parish. He stated, “BSO remains dedicated to using cutting-edge technology, maintaining strong community ties, and continuously adapting to new challenges in order to ensure that Bossier Parish remains a safe and secure place to live and raise a family.”
