A breakdown of this year’s homicides reveal that six were the result of stabbings. One person was killed when he was run over by a car in the course of a robbery. The remaining deaths were all due to gunshot wounds. Eight of the victims were female. The victims’ ages ranged from one year old to 70. Three of the victims were under the age of 18 – 12, 14, and 15.

“What we’ve seen is a significant reduction in homicides as well as calls for shots fired and shootings. The way that we have gotten to that point is by implementing more usage of the Real Time Crime Center as well as a huge number of gun seizures. We have a unit that is dedicated to the seizure of illegally possessed firearms, which is our violent crimes abatement team,” said Cpl. Chris Bordelon.
