With just three and half weeks remaining in the 2024, Shreveport police report a significant drop in homicides this year when compared to 2023.
Currently, the city homicide number stands at 47 homicides. The deadliest zip code is 71109 with 13.The next deadliest zip codes are a tie between 71107 and 71108, with each having 7 homicides.
According to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office, at this time last year, Shreveport had experienced 73 homicides. The total by the end of 2023 was 75. In 2022, the number of homicides totaled 50; the year before that, the city hit a record number with 90.
“What we’ve seen is a significant reduction in homicides as well as calls for shots fired and shootings. The way that we have gotten to that point is by implementing more usage of the Real Time Crime Center as well as a huge number of gun seizures. We have a unit that is dedicated to the seizure of illegally possessed firearms, which is our violent crimes abatement team,” said Cpl. Chris Bordelon.
