Traffic stop leads to pursuit, arrest of two suspects with illegal firearms

[L-R] Labryce Davis and Brandon Daniels

SPD officers initiated a traffic stop on Nov. 17 at around 12:02am on a tan Chevy Trailblazer (license plate: 306 HIE) near the intersection of Oak Park Drive and Jefferson Paige Road. The vehicle was observed running a stop sign in an area where officers had just heard multiple gunshots.

As officers approached the intersection, they observed the SUV rapidly approaching and abruptly braking upon seeing the patrol vehicle. Using high beams to better identify the driver, officers noted the individual was wearing a black ski mask. The vehicle then fled westbound on Jefferson Paige, failing to comply with commands to stop.

A pursuit ensued, during which the suspect vehicle displayed reckless behavior, including:

  • Traveling westbound on Jefferson Paige for 5.5 miles.
  • Reaching speeds up to 90mph.
  • Brake-checking pursuing officers multiple times in an attempt to cause a collision.
  • Entering oncoming traffic lanes on a two-lane road.

The pursuit concluded when the vehicle lost control on a curve and crashed into a ditch. Fortunately, no other vehicles were on the roadway during the incident.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered three firearms, two of which were illegally modified to function as automatic weapons.

The individuals arrested were:

  • Labryce Davis (18): Charged with Illegal Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Machine Gun, Narcotics Possession, and Resisting an Officer.
  • Brandon Daniels (17): Charged with Possession of a Machine Gun, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, and Illegal Use of a Weapon.

Chief Smith commended the responding officers for their proactive and skillful efforts in apprehending these violent offenders, stating, “This outstanding work highlights the dedication of our officers to keeping Shreveport safe and removing dangerous individuals and weapons from our streets.”
