Evangel Christian Academy has won 14 football state championships, which a lot of people know by now, but what not everybody might not be aware of is the Eagles have won 27 district championships, the most of any Caddo-Bossier schools.
The Eagles began that run the first year ECA became eligible for a district title in 1991 in District 4-1A and won 19 straight titles in five different districts. Calvary Baptist ended the run in 2011 with a District 1-2A championship. Evangel moves back into 1-5A this fall having won the most district titles in any of the districts it has competed in and the most in the history of the league with 10.
Benton is next with 18 titles, six coming in 1-3A, five in 1-4A and four in 3-1A dating back to 1966.
Loyola (formerly Jesuit) has 17 with nine of those coming in 1-3A. Woodlawn’s total of 16 includes 10 in 1-4A to tie with old district rival of the 1970s and ‘80s Southwood for most in 1-4A all-time. Captain Shreve won nine titles while playing in 1-4A, the most by local schools and has 15 total after last season’s 1-5A championship.
The list is primarily compiled from 1960 to present with Bossier, Byrd, Fair Park and Plain Dealing the only schools with titles prior to then.
Byrd has the second most in 1-5A history with nine and 13 that dates back to 1956. Bossier’s total of 13 has titles won in 1955 and 1959 included. Fair Park has 10 to its name with three coming before 1960 and ending with its closure after the 2016 season. Plain Dealing also has 10 with one coming before 1960.
Calvary’s total of 13, ties it with Bossier and Byrd but didn’t began until 2007. The Cavaliers have the longest current streak of 11 straight. It leads 1-2A with 10 titles and includes six straight from 2013, when the current streak began, to 2018.
