Magnolia Charter will send eight girls to the LHSAA state track meet in Baton Rouge next Thursday at the Bernie Moore Track at LSU.
None of the eight that qualified at Monday’s regional meet held at Ouachita Christian in Monroe are seniors. The contingent that will make the trek south is composed of three ninth graders and two seventh graders to go along with two sophomores and a junior.
The Mariners qualified three relay teams, winning the 4×100 and 4×200 and finishing fourth in the 4×400.
Freshman Lyric Williams, Junior Kathryn Griffin and sophomore Desiray Markson will compete in three events. Williams was the only one to qualify in more than one individual event after winning the100 meter hurdles (16.87) and finishing fourth in the 300 meter hurdles (52.47). She was on the 4×100 relay team that ran first with a time of 50.81.
Griffin finished third in the 100 meters and is on both 4×100 and 4×200 winning relay teams. Markson was second in the 200 and was also part of the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.
Emiga Blake, a seventh grader, was fourth in the 800 and ran on the 4×400 relay team that finished fourth. Another seventh grader, Khloe Wells, was among the units that won the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Aniyelle Kelly, a ninth grader, will compete on the 4×200 relay team while ninth grader Sa’Rai Ragster and sophomore Amin Kelly will run on the fourth place 4×400 relay team.
The Mariners won the District 1-1A meet and finished fourth as a team in the regional meet.
Sophomore Brianna Newton of Plain Dealing qualified for the shot put after a winning toss of 39-2 ½.
Magnolia had two boys qualify in field events, both sophomores. Deon Elder was third in the discus with a throw of 134-11 and Kaelin Anderson was second in the high jump with a leap of 6-0.
Plain Dealing senior sprinter Aaron Reddix earned a state meet spot in the 400 meters with a second-place finish of 51.69.
