Captain Shreve’s Andrew Bradford, the Shreveport-Bossier Journal boys soccer overall MVP this season, signed Wednesday to play his collegiate soccer in Spartanburg, S.C., for Division II Converse University.
Bradford will be joining Jayson Frink, a 2021 graduate of C.E. Byrd High School on the Valkyries’ squad.
His signing, initially slated to occur at Captain Shreve, moved to Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club due to Caddo Parish Schools canceling classes for the day. But the heavy rains didn’t dampen the excitement for Bradford, his coaches and family, and his teammates.
Bradford was a four-year starter for the Gators. Every year he increased the amount and quality of awards he earned. As a freshman he was voted CSHS Newcomer of the Year while earning second-team all-district and first-team Freshman All-State. As a sophomore he was first-team all-district, and second team All-Metro. His junior year brought him squarely into the spotlight as he was the Gators’ overall MVP, district overall MVP, the Journal’s All-Metro Offensive MVP and second-team All-State.
This season, Bradford was again selected as his team’s overall MVP, in addition to district overall MVP, the Journal’s All-Metro Overall MVP along with repeating as a second-team All-State selection.
In club soccer Bradford lead his Shreveport United 06 team to three Louisiana state championships, and the 2023 Texas State Cup Championship. That title made them just the second local team (Shreveport United 03 girls, in 2021) to qualify for the U.S. Club Nationals in Colorado.
