Shreveport PD arrests man for cruelty to juvenile

Cornelius Johnson

Shreveport police have taken action against a 38-year-old man, Cornelius Johnson, following allegations of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and negligent injury. The arrest came after concerns were raised by two juveniles to a school resource officer, alleging physical abuse by a guardian.

Upon receiving the report, detectives swiftly responded and gathered compelling evidence, leading to Johnson’s arrest. Chief Wayne Smith emphasized the importance of active parental involvement in nurturing youth, while strongly discouraging the use of implements or objects in disciplinary actions.

“We urge guardians and parents to actively participate in the upbringing of our youth,” stated Chief Wayne Smith. “While discipline is essential, we advocate for its administration in a manner that prioritizes the well-being and safety of the child.”

The Shreveport Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of minors and ensuring justice for victims of juvenile cruelty. It is important to note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty under state law.

Fortunately, the juveniles involved in this case are expected to recover. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable members of our community and the swift action that can be taken to address instances of abuse.
