The end of the second week of girls District 1-5A girls action has both Haughton and Parkway still undefeated (4-0) and Captain Shreve pulled off the first surprise defeating Airline for its first district win.
Haughton defeated Natchitoches Central 47-40 to notch its 20th win on the season in 23 games. The Lady Chiefs fell to 13-8, 2-2 with the loss. Parkway blasted Byrd 62-3 to improve to 16-6 overall.
Shreve outscored Airline 33-27 in the second half for a 50-45 win. The Lady Gators are now 8-8 overall and 1-3 in district. Airline slipped to 14-7, 2-2.
Benton got past Southwood 56-51 to pull into a three-way tie for third with Natchitoches Central and Airline at 2-2 in the district and are 13-10 overall. Southwood falls to 17-5, 1-3.
Boys 1-5A games had Captain Shreve, Southwood, Parkway and Natchitoches Central all get double-digit wins. The Gators won at Airline 46-26, the Cowboys dropped Benton 56-41, Panthers clipped Byrd 76-61 and Chiefs belted Haughton 82-62.
Saturday’s action involved boys games in the final day of the Bossier Invitational round-robin tournament. Airline edged past Huntington 45-43 to avenge a two-point loss to the Raiders in the finals of its own tournament exactly a week prior. The final game of the tournament had another barn burner as Calvary beat Bossier 66-64 in overtime.
