RUSTON — The East stranglehold on the LFCA/LHSCA I-20 Bowl continues after a 15-14 win Sunday at Ruston High School’s Hoss Garrett Stadium.

East quarterback Ty Feaster hit David Moore with a decisive 2-point conversion pass after finding Logan Malone on a 27-yard scoring toss with 1:58 left in the game. Feaster’s TD pass came on a fourth-and-7 after a previous drive came up short on a fourth-and-goal at the West 5.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the East and sixth in the seven I-20 Bowl games.

The East had driven from its own 38 to the West 5 on the running of the game’s leading rusher, Jy’Marion Island. The Union Parish product carried the ball on eight of the 11 plays of the drive for 45 yards. The only other play of positive yards in the drive was a 12-yard pass from Feaster to Island’s running mate, fullback Zerrick Jones, for a first-and-goal at the 8. A couple of Island runs netted three yards, but third and fourth down passes from the 5 fell incomplete.

Three plays failed to gain any yards and the West was forced to punt from its own 5. Tate Hamby returned an Abram Murray (Byrd) punt 14 yards to the West 30. After a seven-yard run by Feaster, it appeared the East had recovered a Hamby fumble after catching a shovel pass from Feaster. But the East was able to retain possession after a four-yard loss. A third-down Feaster pass was incomplete to set up the fourth down scoring toss to Malone.

Island led all rushers in the game with 19 carries for 75 yards. Feaster completed 8-fo-14 passes for 92 yards and scored the other East touchdown on a second quarter 1-yard run.

The West had taken a 14-7 lead on the second play of the fourth quarter when Tre’Von Jackson, the game’s MVP, ran in from the 7. The Airline product capped a 10-play, 59-yard drive in which he carried the ball on seven of the plays for 28 yards. Xavier McGlothan and Bob Patterson (Airline) had pass receptions of 16 and 9 yards, respectively, in the drive.

Jackson led the West with 69 yards on 16 carries and scored both touchdowns. Quarterback Hutson Hearron (Northwood) was 11-of-21 passing for 145 yards and McGlothan had seven receptions for 91 yards.
