Wossman took advantage of five turnovers and a couple special teams plays to overcome Northwood 12-7 Friday night at Jerry Burton Stadium.
The Wildcats took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter with their only offensive touchdown after Northwood snapped the ball over the punter’s head and gave the visitors the ball at the Falcon 10.
Northwood came back to take the lead in the third quarter on a score by sophomore Kyron Johnson.
But Wossman (2-0) returned the kickoff for its only other score to retake the lead and hang on for the win.
“Our defense played great all night. I bet they didn’t get much more than 100 yards,” said Falcons’ coach Austin Brown. “We moved the ball some and had more offense than them, just had too many mistakes.”
The loss drops Northwood to 0-2 going into next Friday’s game at undefeated Airline (2-0).
BOOKER T. WASINGTON 52, BOLTON 6: Brian French didn’t know he would have to play quarterback until Wednesday but that didn’t stop him from accounting for five touchdowns to lead the Lions to the win in Alexandria.
The Lions scored on the first snap of the game with a strip and fumble return and on offense on a 50-yard pass from French.
“The defense played very well tonight,” said coach Gary Cooper. “Just very proud of the kids, it was a great win.”
BTW (1-1) now gets ready to face Green Oaks in the “Soul Bowl” next Saturday. Bolton is 0-2 and has been outscored 110-6.
GLENBROOK 28, BOSSIER 6: At Minden, the Apaches scored on their first two possessions and kept the Bearkats offense out of the end zone in posting the non-district win.
Bossier got its only score midway in the third quarter on a 75-yard kickoff return by LeBrandon Davis after Glenbrook scored to take a 20-0 lead.
The Bearkats’ only offensive threat came at the end of the first half when Caleb Jones broke loose on their biggest play of the night, a 50-yard run to flip the field and give them a first down at the Glenbrook 25. The Kats got as close as the Apache 6 but were stopped short on fourth and goal from there.
Bossier is now 1-1 and will play parish rival Parkway next Friday.
