Super Bowl forecast: Silver Stars could shine in Vegas Feb. 11

Week 2 of the high school football season is Week 1 for the NFL, so we stuck with a pro theme for our weekly question to local head coaches.

Last week they revealed their predictions for which area NFL team will have the best year. Dallas was the prevalent pick, with New Orleans also cited. Nobody picked Houston.

This week’s question: which NFL teams will be the best of the best this season? Who’s going to Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII?

We start with the savvy veteran who coached a current NFL quarterback when both were in Haughton.

Rodney Guin, Calvary Baptist – “The Chiefs, due to Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, who is a great coach.  The Cowboys, ‘cause i always pull for Dak (Prescott) but they will have to knock out the favorites, the Eagles, who seem to have all the pieces in place.”

He’s not alone.

Stephen Dennis, Huntington – “Dallas Cowboys from the NFC. Even if they burn me again, I think this is the best team they have had in a while. Kansas City from the AFC, I think as long as Mahomes is healthy and they have Andy Reid, they are going to be consistently playing in the Super Bowl, they have found a winning formula.”

Thedrick Harris, Woodlawn – “Dallas (because I’m a lifelong fan.) Otherwise, I say the Eagles. In the AFC, it’s the Chiefs. Honestly, I don’t keep up with it that close but I also like the Bills and Dolphins in the AFC.”

Austin Brown, Northwood – “From the NFC, the Cowboys or 49ers. In the AFC, the Ravens. All three teams have the best rosters and dynamic playmakers in key positions. And I’m a homer – go Cowboys!”

Jason Brotherton, Haughton –  “Cowboys-Bills. The Cowboys have a great roster and at some point they have to get over the hump. Buffalo has Josh Allen, who is capable of putting the team on his back. If they can get home field advantage no one will want to go play there in January.”

Coy Brotherton, Parkway – “My heart says Bills vs. Cowboys — go Dallas — but the brain says Eagles over Chiefs.”

Reynolds Moore, Benton – “I’m going with Bills vs. Eagles. Really like Josh Allen to finally get the Bills back and the Eagles were clicking as well as anyone last year and probably should have won it last year.”

Justin Scogin, Airline – “I’m going rematch from last year — Philadelphia and KC. (Jalen) Hurts and Mahomes was an all-time Super Bowl matchup I’m hoping for it again. I really don’t have an NFL team per se, but I also really like the 49ers and Bengals as a close second in their conferences, respectively.”

Adam Kirby, Captain Shreve – “Saints, because I’m an optimist who would rather have heartbreak at the end of my season than believe we won’t win the Super Bowl. If they’re not in it, I’m going with Philly again from the NFC. As a realist, the Chiefs will win it — because they have Patrick Mahomes.”

Denny Duron, Evangel – “It’s going to be a KC three-peat. They have everybody back.”

Mike Greene, Loyola – “I hate to say this, but I do not watch the NFL very much. Usually I’m breaking down film on Sundays. I have to choose college or pro to watch, and college wins.”

Gary Cooper, BTW – “Definitely Pittsburgh!! (Last week, he said he was a huge Steelers fan.) But the Bills are really good this year. In the NFL, it’s San Fran all the way.”
