After three seasons as North Caddo’s defensive coordinator, Chase Thompson will be making all the calls for the Titans.

Thursday, the Titans announced via Twitter that Thompson has been promoted to head coach, filling the longest vacancy among the 19 local football-playing high schools.

Johnny Kavanaugh departed North Caddo just before Christmas to take over Fountainebleu High School’s program in Mandeville. In Kavanaugh’s five seasons, the Titans were 33-21 and reached the playoffs each year.

Kavanaugh was an offensive-minded coach whose teams lit up scoreboards. Thompson’s defense made it doubly tough on Titans’ opponents.

The hiring means there is only one job still open locally, at Green Oaks.

Six local schools – Bossier, Booker T. Washington, Green Oaks, Magnolia School of Excellence, North Caddo, and Woodlawn — have had head coaching moves since the end of the 2022 season.
