Coach recognized at Haughton and seniors celebrated at Parkway

Haughton recognized a long-time coach on his retirement and Parkway celebrated its seniors on the final day of the LHSAA baseball regular season Monday.

Bucs assistant coach Hal Harlan, who is retiring at the end of the school year, was given a nice celebration with a 1-0 Haughton defeat of Calvary. Caleb Brown’s third-inning single scored Parx Walker with the game’s only run as Austin Anderson and Brown combined on the shutout. Anderson allowed three hits in four innings of work and improved to 7-4 with the win for Haughton (22-11). Brown was 2-for-3 at the plate and allowed three hits in his three innings on the mound.

Hutch Grace and Aubrey Hermes were both 2-for-3 for Calvary (24-10).

Parkway honored its seniors with a 11-1 defeat of Quitman at Ronnie Coker Field. Shawn Driggers had a home run and was 3-for-3, Barrett Newman was 3-for-4 with five RBI and Brandon Levy 2-for-2 with two RBI.  The Panthers will take a 21-8 record into the LHSAA playoffs.

CAPTAIN SHREVE 12, NATCHITOCHES CENTRAL 0: At Natchitoches, the Gators got a combined three-hit shutout from Bryce Lopez and Rhyson Carroway in the five-inning run-rule District 1-5A win. Andrew Sharp, Aron Gillum and Chance Hatfield all had three hits, with Sharp and Hatfield having doubles and Gillum drove in three runs. Lopez worked four of the five innings, struck out five, walked four and allowed two hits. Carroway gave up a hit and struck out three in his inning of work for Shreve (22-12).

ROSEPINE 4, BENTON 3: The host Eagles took advantage of an error by the Tigers in the eighth inning to get their 18th win in 27 games. Bryson Pierce had a double as eight Benton players had one hit apiece. Five Tiger pitchers got in some work and allowed four hits, while they walked seven and struck out 10. Benton, the District 1-5A champion, will take a 19-15 record into the Non-Select Division I playoffs.

BYRD 10, NEVILLE 9: Walker Fox scored the winning run on a fielding error for the Yellow Jackets in the eighth inning following a Zach Wilburn single that scored KD Harris with the tying run Monday night at The Hive. 

NORTHWOOD 9, LASALLE 5: Mason Welch hit a walk-off grand slam in the seventh inning to power the Falcons to the win. Cayne Little was 2-for-4, Brenon Burns 2-for-3 and Hayden Phipps 2-for-3 for Northwood (27-7). 

EVANGEL 7, LOYOLA 4: Kody Jackson was 2-for-4 and Peyton Fulghum 2-for-3 with a two-RBI double to lead the Eagles past the Flyers at Cicero Field. Konnor O’Neal and Cain Feibel were both 2-or-4 for Loyola.
