Evans, Gultery top 1-5A All-District boys’ basketball team

Southwood power forward Jeremiah Evans was named the Most Valuable Player and coach Brandon Gultery was chosen as the Coach of the Year on the District 1-5A All-District team selected by league coaches.

Evans, a 6-foot-8 junior, led the district in scoring and rebounding as the Cowboys won the district at 14-0, their first undefeated league season since 2003. He eclipsed 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career in a 59-40 win over Natchitoches Central to conclude the 2022-23 regular season.

Gultery led the Cowboys to a 24-8 overall record in his third season at the school.

Southwood also placed senior Darius Anderson on the first team. Second-place Captain Shreve had junior Jyrin Sowell earn first-team honors. Airline senior Colby O’Glee and Benton’s Greg Manning, a junior, made the first team.
