The 2023 LHSAA girls’ basketball playoff pairings were released Monday with Parkway and Huntington being the only local schools seeded in the top 10 in their divisions.
Parkway (26-5) leads the list with a No. 2 seed in Non-Select Division I and Huntington (23-6) is a No. 7 in Select Division I. Both schools received a bye in the first round and will begin their quests to return to the Marsh Madness Tournament semifinals and finals in Hammond.
The only local team playing in the first round of games at home will be Loyola, a 15 seed in Select Division III. The Lady Flyers (11-15) will host 18-seed Ascension Episcopal (11-13).
Byrd garnered a 17 seed in Select Division I, just one spot shy of a home game. The Lady Jackets have posted a 17-11 record, their first winning season since 2013, and will travel to No. 16 St. Joseph’s (16-10).
Other locals in Select Division I include Northwood (20-9), the runner-up in District 1-4A, a 21 seed who travels to face 12-seed Mount Carmel (17-13). Southwood (13-17) is the 24 seed and plays at No. 9 Liberty (17-9).
Three teams join Parkway in the Non-Select Division I bracket. Benton (19-12) at No. 17 was another team just one spot shy of a home game and travels to take on No. 16 Sulphur (19-9). Airline (18-14) is the 20 seed and will play at No. 13 Destrehan (22-6). Haughton (23-10) is seeded 19 and plays at No. 14 Dutchtown (21-11).
In Select Division II, Booker T. Washington (13-11) is the 19 seed and plays No. 14 Carver (16-12).
Select Division III has two other local teams besides Loyola in the bracket. No. 19 Calvary (11-6) will visit No. 14 Pope John Paul II (11-12) and North Caddo (6-11) got the last spot at No. 24 and will play at ninth-seed Glenmora (15-10).
