Seven area athletes among state leaders

Seven area football athletes are among the state’s top statistical leaders in the final regular-season rankings.

Airline sophomore quarterback Ben Taylor is second among passers with 2,730 yards. Taylor has completed 198 passes of 324 and 34 touchdowns. His TD total is second most in the list of yardage leaders.

Seniors Gray Walters of Benton and Kameron Evans of Huntington are in the top 15 list of yardage leaders. Walters is seventh with 2,375 yards and Evans tenth with 2,286. Walters’ total is for nine games and Evans has missed the last two games of the season due to injury. He has played in eight contests.

Pearce Russell of Benton is second in the state in receiving yards with 1,328. He leads the state in receptions with 78, one more than yardage leader Howard Kinchen of Patterson.

North Caddo’s Omarion Miller is third in yardage with 1,183 and is second on the list in average yards per catch at 24.1.   

Daxton Chavez of Airline is seventh in yards with 1,044 and tied for the most touchdown receptions at 18. Chavez recorded 50 catches for a 20.9 average per catch. Evangel receiver Parker Fulghum was 14th on the list of receivers with 879 yards.
