JOURNAL STAFF
Each week this fall the Shreveport-Bossier Journal will feature a question we ask all the local high school football coaches, and their answers will run each Wednesday.
This week’s question:
Favorite sports hero growing up and why? Favorite memories of sports hero?
Austin Brown, Northwood High School
“Grandfather, Oscar Pickering, professional baseball player and local legend. My favorite memory is hearing of his exploits from the people who watched him.”
Justin Scogin, Airline High School
“Derek Jeter. He always played hard and did things the right way.”
Jason Brotherton, Haughton High School
“John Elway. That helicopter run (for a TD) in the Super Bowl sticks with me.”
Jesse Esters III, Southwood High School
“Lyle Alzado (Raiders). He was tough, strong and played mean.”
Reynolds Moore, Benton High School
“Will Clark and Dan Marino. Will Clark had the sweetest swing ever and I loved watching him in the ’89 World Series (Earthquake Series vs Oakland). I believe Marino may have had the best skill set for a throwing QB in NFL history.”
Coy Brotherton, Parkway High School
“Kirby Puckett (Minnesota Twins). What he did in the 1991 World Series Game 6 sold me.”
Chadwick Lewis, Green Oaks High School
“Michael Jordan. My favorite sports memory is when he won the fourth championship right after his father passed.”
