Wossman’s defense and Booker T. Washington’s youth combined to produce a 38-0 victory for the visitors from Monroe on Friday night.
The Lions could not get anything going offensively. “Our youth really reared its head tonight,” head coach Tony Reliford said.
The game was delayed 30 minutes due to weather and poor field conditions didn’t help as BTW struggled on offense.
“Anything that could go wrong, did got wrong,” Reliford said. “We had several turnovers on mishandled snaps and we were just sloppy. If it could have gone wrong tonight, it went wrong.”
Reliford was quick to praise his senior running back Kendrick Pratt. “He’s the guy we will continue to lean on,” Reliford said. “He leads by example. Hats off to him. There’s nothing wrong with his effort whatsoever.”
The Lions will be at home again Friday against Bolton (Alexandria).
Lake Charles Prep 54, Magnolia School of Excellence 6: The Mariners were facing a daunting task when they welcomed the Trailblazers to their home field Friday night. After all, LCP was coming off of an 8-2 record in 2021 while Magnolia was hoping to turn things around after going 1-10.
The only score for Magnolia — facing LCP for the first time ever — came on a 14-yard touchdown run by Mark McCray. The Mariners (0-1) will travel to Lake Providence to take on General Trass (1-0) in Week 2. The Panthers opened their season with a 48-14 victory over Jonesboro-Hodge Friday night.
Delta Charter 54, Plain Dealing 8: The Lions’ only score came in the first quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run by Tyrese Kimble. Joshua Miller passed to Kimble for the 2-point conversion.
Plain Dealing (0-1) will be at Lincoln Prep (1-0) in Week 2 action next Friday night.
