JONESBORO, Ark. – The Grambling State Tigers and former NFL head coach Hue Jackson play their first six games in the 2022 season away from home, and no assignment is any more difficult than tonight at Arkansas State.

The contest kicks at 6 p.m. from Centennial Bank Stadium. Although ASU went 2-10 last season, the Sun Belt Conference Red Wolves have a winning culture, with a series of bowl appearances in the past decade.

The Tigers have enjoyed much success in that span, just not lately. Grambling struggled during the pandemic-delayed 2020 campaign, going winless in four games, and went 4-7 last season, firing coach Broderick Fobbs before the Bayou Classic, which GSU claimed over Southern.

Saturday’s game will be streamed on ESPN+ while Grambling State will broadcast and stream the game on the Grambling State Sports Radio Network.

Jackson said the Tigers are eager to play an opponent after spending nearly the past month in training camp.

“We are looking forward to it and are anticipating a big crowd at Arkansas State,” Jackson said. “We are anticipating a good turnout for us. I think we travel pretty well. People want to see what we are doing and what we are trying to accomplish, so we’re looking forward to it.”

Tiger fans and the Red Wolves are looking forward to finding out who Jackson chooses to start at quarterback. The Tigers haven’t gotten consistent play at that key spot in the last three seasons.

Grambling, with several guarantee games in its opening contests, hasn’t won an opener since 2012.
