SBJ Coaches’ Roundtable: Hot takes from prep football leaders

BROTHERTON LOVE:  Until the horn blew last Friday and at any  time their teams meet, brothers Coy (Parkway head coach, in gray, back to camera) and Jason Brotherton (Haughton head coach, in red)  are fierce rivals.

JOURNAL STAFF

Each week this fall the Shreveport Bossier Journal will feature a question we ask all the local high school football coaches, and their answers will run each Wednesday.

Some questions are football-related, like today’s. Others give us some insight on what these coaches enjoy away from ball.

Basketball coaches, pay attention. Your questions are coming this winter.

This week’s question:

What is a rule change you’d like to see and why?

 Justin Scogin, Airline High School

“Spot foul for holding.”

Austin Brown, Northwood High School

“Lineman down field. Sleep better at night knowing if the play is a run or a pass.”

Coy Brotherton, Parkway High School

“Holding penalties being spot fouls. Sometimes you see a holding penalty being marked off 20 yards because of where it happened.”

Jesse Esters III, Southwood High School

“Transfer rules. The investigations don’t prove much and often get overlooked. Players should have to sit out regardless of what the situation is inside of a school district.”

Chad Lewis, Green Oaks High School

“Cut blocking down the field.”

Reynolds Moore, Benton High School

“Offsides in high school football should not result in a dead ball foul. The play should be allowed to continue with the offense having the choice of the result of the play or the penalty…just the same as in college and NFL.”
