Huntington’s returning starter Kamron Evans became the first quarterback from a school not named Calvary or Evangel to pass for over 500 yards last season when he set the single-game record for passing yards in the Shreveport Bossier Journal area (588) against Bastrop.
Evans is the fifth quarterback to break the 500-yard mark and did it by completing only 21 passes of 26 attempts while tossing for six touchdowns. The 588 yards surpassed the Huntington school record of 435 yards set by Elliott Jones in 2010.
Evans passed for 406 yards two weeks later in a win over Franklin Parish and finished his junior season with 3,630 yards and 44 touchdowns.
Calvary’s Nik McCarty is second on the list with 569 yards in a game played at Carencro in 2011.
Evangel has the other three to go over the 500-yard mark. Phillip Deas leads that group with 528 yards against Alexandria Sr. High in 1996. Josh Booty was the first quarterback to break into the 500-yard club when he passed for 519 yards in a 1992 defeat of LaSalle. Dakota Duron’s 509 yards against Barbe in 2012 was the last 500-yard performance until Evans set the record.
Booty had a pair of games in excess of 490 yards, Brock Berlin threw for 486 yards against John Tyler and David Dee Duron (473) round out the Evangel quarterbacks that are among the top 10.
Haughton’s Dak Prescott passed for 473 yards against Woodlawn-Baton Rouge in a playoff game in 2010 to join Evans as the only ones in the top 10 not from Calvary and Evangel.
