The 2022 Huntington High School Raiders will field a very talented team on both sides of the football. Most of these kids are 6-0 to 6-3, and many have college athletic futures.
The best athlete on the team is a small package of dynamite: 5-8, 160-pound wide receiver, slot, punt returner, kickoff returner and playmaker Tre Carter.
He sure produced in 2021 with 48 catches and 12 touchdowns in a tough district.
Carter can just make things happen in space with his feet and has great hips to change direction on a dime. He runs a legit 4.45 40. He can run faster, and looks faster in uniform.
I really love his demeanor. You can tell he competes every play and he’s not someone I would like to defend if I played defense in high school. This kid is one of the best playmakers in all of Shreveport and North Louisiana.
The talent is evident. The size is a question. He will not disappoint if some Division I colleges give him a shot to show his skill set. He does have smaller colleges recruiting him on the Division II and Division III levels. He currently has an offer from Arkansas Monticello.
If I were an FCS or FBS coach, I would find a way to sign Carter. If he can’t break the two-deep as a freshman at slot/wide receiver, you can get this kid on the field on special teams on punt and kick returns.
He would be a great playmaker with his speed and moves in the open field in an FCS conference like the Southland in Northwestern State, McNeese State, Nicholls or Southeastern, or in an FBS conference like the Sun Belt which has UL Lafayette, ULM and others. If he keeps progressing this fall, I would not rule out his catching the attention of programs like Tulane, UTSA, Houston, SMU or TCU.
Carter likes the idea of staying in state and can envision a trip east on I-20 where he sees a match.
“I like Louisiana Tech because they would be a great fit for me. They throw the ball and I just love the coaching staff.”
Heading south is also appealing for this explosive prospect.
“LSU was always my dream school,” said Carter. “They have a lot of success for sending wide receivers to the NFL. I think Tulane would be a great fit for me because it’s closer to home than many other schools, and there’s nothing better to be than in New Orleans.”
“ULM would be good for me because they have a great architecture program and their football team is coming on.”
“Nicholls is the newest school I like,” he said. “I’m interested in learning more about their program.”
Huntington head coach Steve Dennis expects Carter to sizzle again this season.
“Tre Carter will be the veteran skill player among a group of young talented receivers for us,” said Dennis. ” Tre is our returning leading wide receiver, and we expect him to capitalize off an amazing junior season. Tre plays with amazing explosiveness and can take the top off a defense in a heartbeat. We will need him to provide this week in and week out as he, by far, has the most game experience returning for us.”
Notes on Tre Carter: Carter’s hobbies are playing 2K “because I love to have fun and just play with my friends,” and “just traveling with my family because you can’t get that time back.”
What he likes most about football is “the Friday nights and just being out there with my brothers and, most of all, scoring TDs to help my team win.”
