Huntington lineman Jabari Scott has that ‘NFL build’

By LEE BRECHEEN, Louisiana Football Magazine

Sometimes when you see football players get off the bus for games, there are guys who look like NFL players in a uniform. This would be the case for me to describe today’s subject, Jabari Scott from Huntington High School.

Scott has the massive build to go as far as he wants in college. He also moves well for someone who plays at either 360-370 pounds — or as of this writing, 305 after losing some weight from the 2021 season.

So, I am excited to see how he looks 60 pounds lighter when I thought he was Division I at 370. If he plays this year at the goal he has set for himself of 285 or 280, he would become the biggest sleeper offensive lineman in the state by mid-season. Scott is almost 6-4 — and still growing.

As far as where would I see him playing in college, it depends on his weight. If he gets down to 285 or 280, he could become an offensive tackle because he has great hands and would be very athletic. If he stays in the 300 to 315 range, he would make a great offensive guard and would be able to pull and be scary.

What I also like is this young man has a 3.4 GPA in the classroom and is determined to get his ACT score up by the fall or by the end of the season.

Scott has really become a leader of his team, and Huntington offensive line coach Jeff Bordelone has some high praise of Scott’s talent.

“JB is a very physically gifted football player at 6-3, 315 pounds; he runs a 5.2 40 and bench presses more than 350 pounds,” Bordelone said. “JB has a good head for the game and aids in identifying defensive fronts for us. He’s flexible and will play multiple positions this fall. Also love that he has a knack for playing physical and finishing blocks.”

What Scott has to say about head coach Stephen Dennis: “Coach Dennis is a coach you would love to have. He cares for us as if we were his own kids. He will come to get you from home and take you to and from school for practice or a regular day school day if we need help or a ride to school.”

Notes on Jabari Scott:  He plans to major in mechanical engineering in college.

Jabari would be the first in his family to play college football and has offers from Louisiana Christian and Arkansas Monticello.

His favorite colleges are Louisiana Tech, Tulsa and Oklahoma State.

In his spare time Jabari likes “to play football with my brothers because I recently lost my oldest brother and it just made me want to spend as much time as I can with them.”
