Local archers picked to All-America team

Six girls from four local schools were selected to the National Archery in the Schools Program All-America Academic Team.

Savannah O’Donohue, Charli Long and Madison Hammersla represented Benton Middle School; Jewel Blakely of Calvary Baptist Academy; Kylee Ducote of Stockwell Place Elementary and Finnley George of Benton Intermediate made the nationally-recognized squad.

Qualifications include a mixture of national scores and classroom performance.

Benton sweeps state 3D titles, Haughton girl takes individual crown

When it comes to shooting foam animal figures, nobody does it better than the Benton Tigers.

Benton captured state titles at the elementary, middle school and high school levels at the Alexandria Mega Shelter earlier this year.

Ethan Isaksen led the high school Tigers with a second-place finish overall with a 284. The junior finished second overall among male shooters to claim a $1,000 scholarship.

Three Benton archers finished in the top five in the middle school division with Kyleigh Bernard (284) second, Savannah O’Donohue (278) fourth and Madison Hammersla (278) fifth.

At the elementary level, Benton’s Hollan Hicks shot a 265 to lead the Tigers.

Haughton Middle and Stockwell Place Elementary each claimed second in their respective divisions.

Haughton’s Zoe Bayne claimed the middle school and overall state title with a 294, garnering a $1,500 scholarship. Teammate Madison Burson placed third in the high school division.

Nathan White (267) led Stockwell with a second-place overall finish with Kayson Warner (263) finishing fourth. Calvary’s Brooks Beaty (263) took fifth.

All scholarships are awarded through the Archery in Louisiana Schools Program, which allotted a total of $20,500 in scholarships through two state tournaments, according to a press release issued Monday by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Benton claims two bullseye state titles, Haughton girl wins shootoff

Benton added two state bullseye titles at the elementary and middle school levels at a Shreveport event.

Three middle school archers Madison Hammersla (second, 291), Savannah O’Donohue (fourth, 288) and Chase Manor (fifth, 287) boosted Benton to a title.

Haughton’s Zoe Bayne claimed the middle school and overall state individual title with a 291, beating out Benton’s Hammersla in a shootoff. Bayne added $3,000 to her scholarship total with Hammersla picking up $2,000 in scholarship money.

Other top high school finishers include Northwood’s Emily Waits (third, 289), Benton’s Corbin Nash (fourth, 284) and Ethan Isaksen (fifth, 283). Airline High placed second and Benton third as teams.

Nathan White led Stockwell Place to a third-place finish with 274 points, placing third in his division.
