Huntington’s Jones named top coach on 4A All-State team

TOP COACH: Huntington boys coach Mack Jones was named the Coach of the Year on the Class 4A All-State team by the LSWA.

Huntington boys basketball Mack Jones has been named the Coach of the Year on the Class 4A All-State team selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Huntington was also represented by having Rayshun McCullar named to the boys first team and Kalea Dean named to the girls first team.

Jones was honored after leading the Raiders to a 22-6 record, the District 1-4A title and the state semifinals. He also helped Huntington get through the death of player Devin Meyers, who was killed prior to the Raiders’ Class 4A quarterfinal playoff game against Beau Chene.

McCullar, a 6-foot-1 senior guard, has been a four-year starter at Huntington and was the floor leader for the Raiders averaging 22.2 points and 6.1 assists per game.

Solomon Washington of state champion Carver was named the boys Outstanding Player.

Dean, a 5-9 senior, helped lead a Lady Raiders (20-7) squad to an undefeated District 1-4A championship and the state semifinals by averaging 17.9 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks per game.

Makayla Charles of Vandebilt Catholic was named the girls Outstanding Player. Coach of the Year honors went to Ellender’s Javine Robinson.
